MISS DAPITAN 2005 TALENT NIGHT
PRESENTATION, A BLAST! A true Miss Dapitan should possessed a bunch of confidence, beauty, power of mind and enough courage as well as confidence to face the crowd. All of these assets were put to the test last July 16, 2005, 8:00 in the evening at the Dapitan City Cultural and Sports Center. As early as 7:30 in the evening the venue was filled with Dapitanons and visitors from different places just to witness the ten promising young ladies of the Shrine City as they face their battle of talents and poise. As the lights were slowly dimmed to signal everyone to prepare themselves for a great showcasing of talents, cheers and yell of excitement filled the atmosphere. The program was formally opened by a doxology followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by Ms. December Gay Tangcay and Hon. Alexander C. Yorong, Dapitan City Councilor also gave his welcome remarks to everyone.
In order to ease the too much agitation of the audience, right after the message of Hon. Yorong, the candidates immediately took charge of the stage and grooved in their party poppin’ concept introductory number. Each of them introduced themselves and their sponsoring agency in a very lively way to break the ice and show how confidence they are. Their production number was followed by the introduction of the following board of judges; Thalma C. Sorronda, the Clerk of Court IV of the MTCC of Dapitan City, Mr. Marvin C. Hamoy, the presently Vice President for Administration of the Rizal Memorial Institute and Dipolog City Councilor Alton Ratificar the Assistant Minority Floor Leader of Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Dipolog and Chairman of the famous Pagsalabuk Festival in the City of Orchids. The audience was glued to their seats and fastened their eyes on stage as the clash of talents heats up the stage. I just wonder if the parents of the candidates had a lot of fun watching the show like the audience did, because through their gestures and expressions, nervousness and a bit of worry for their daughter were visible. Ellyn B. Jaralve, who represents the Liga ng mga Barangay, performed a Neo Ethnic Dance. The audience was more focused on their daring clothes especially to the “great” bodies of her male dancers who confidently performed wearing only bahag the traditional costume of the Aetas.
Then Diocyth Jane Baje performed the talent that touches our pride as well as our nationalistic ego. She truly surprised the audience as she portrayed the very courageous and well-determined woman from the past during the time when the Spaniards colonized our country and mixed it with very synchronized depictive movements together with her dancers which by the way made the audience applaud much louder. That was truly girl power! The stage was on fire as candidate number 3, Jeza Mae Galleposo who represents the City Mayor’s Office grind her sexy body impersonating the grace and poise of the bodylicious Beyonce Knowles (Dapitan City rendition).
Hail to contestant number 4, Riani Faye dela Cruz of Potungan Cluster 5, she performed a very unique talent. I can’t even imagine the other candidates doing what she did, impersonating an ignorant guy who went to a movie house and watched an action film; her performance was based from the great Visayan Novelty song. She really knew what the Dapitanons need in this very busy week of preparations for the City fiesta, a time to have great moments once again. Another young version of Beyonce Knowles heats up the evening in the person of Ana Kristina Zason of Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial District Hospital. Her physical attributes are quite similar to the physique of Beyonce. I am pretty sure the aspiring JayZs out there agree with this thoughts.
The truly beautiful Charize Christi T. Colis who represents the City Vice Mayor’s Office and Sangguniang Panglungsod mesmerized the crowd. Christi performed a ballroom dancing medley with a very “rapid” dance steps. She was not able to tottaly hid her stage fright but her performance was almost on the next level of becoming the next dancing queen of Dapitan. As Wennie Gress Verdadero of the Department of Education (DepEd) came out on stage, young audiences were a bit petrified by her looks portraying the character of Imang in the Kampanerang Kuba, a comic’s story turned into a Fantaserye in ABS-CBN. She also sang the popular theme song of GMA network’s teleserye Stair Way To Heaven. Great! Perfect combination of the two competing TV stations here in the Philippines.
Chalian Heidi Mae Quizo who also represents the Potungan District Cluster 5 rendered a festival dance. She perfectly moved with the rhythm and she knew how and when to sway her hips. Chai2x might be the next Kinabayo Festival star dancer, who knows! Who says that the Kampanerang Kuba can’t go to parties and dance like the rest of the partygoers? Definitely not Ruth S. Quizo of Sangguniang Kabataan. She showed to the public the great transformation of the kuba (hunchback), from the simple girl that was mocked by almost everybody, into a very attractive and fun loving young lady…and she live happily ever after. Yo! Two thumbs up to the cool performance of Kristine Gladys Elumba of Gallera de Dapitan. The crowds unconsciously stump their feet and slightly shake their body during the punk-modern dance presentation of this 18-year old lady. I should say she was totally hip because she went down the stage together with her back up dancers and execute their complicated dance steps in front of the board of judges.
Despite of some technical
problems, the Ms. Dapitan ’05 Talent Night was definitely a successful
one. Thanks to the Executive Committee of the pageant, Sponsors, also to
the very charming host on that evening Ms. Barbara Lingamen Rito-Calasang
and most especially to the candidates who are blessed with talents. |
