Significance of the
municipality to the region or province
The creation of
the municipality of Katipunan has contributed lots of significant
toward regional and provincial economic growth.
The strategic
location of the municipality has inspired many potential leaders
in the regional and provincial level to introduce developments,
which would gear the pressing needs of the constituents
especially to those living in the far-flung barangays.
The location as
situated along the national highway has served a gateway of any
land transportation moving from Dipolog City bound to Zamboanga
City, where regional center was presently located.
This municipality
of Katipunan being a part of Zamboanga del Norte is located
within the heart of the growth area of the provincial industrial
corridor, the Dapitan-Dipolog-Katipunan-Roxas-Manukan corridor (DDKRM).
Under the existing
comprehensive land use plan, the municipality has allocated
around 123.19 hectares of land intended for industrial purposes
and these are located along the national highway which traverse
the barangays of Daanglungsod, Dr. Jose Rizal, New Tambo and
Tuburan near the industrial port of Roxas.
The classification
was made possible in order to complement the aim of the
provincial government making the municipality of Katipunan a part
of the nearly booming industrial corridor of the province.
Employment Distribution
Based on the
records from the National census office, the potential labor
force of Katipunan is approximately 56.81% of the total
population.
Only around 1,873
out of 37,448 people are gainfully employed while the rest whose
age ranges from 15 years old and over were doing farming and
fishing activities and some were having business opportunities.
1. Recent
Municipal Development Trends and Constraints
The
acquisition of heavy equipment has contributed lot of
developments in the municipality, especially, to the remote
barangays that cannot be reached by any land
transportation.
The aim to develop
farming activities in the municipality is evident as
construction/ rehabilitation/ regravelling of farm to market
roads continue to crawl and expand in the entire municipality,
with the used of the newly acquired heavy equipment.
On the other hand,
the aim also to increase the financial stability of the
municipality, systematic schemes on tax collection were being
made possible to inspire delinquent taxpayers to respond their
obligations to the government by paying taxes regularly and on
time scheduled. The conduct of information drive in different
barangays has open-wide the mind of taxpayers to support the
program. |
